He was carrying a basket full of red caps on his head and going through a forest. As it was a hot day, he got tired in the heat of the sun and thought of taking rest for a while.
So, he kept his basket on the ground and slept under the tree for some time.

The monkeys came down one by one, took all the caps from the cap seller's basket and then climbed on the tree.
Suddenly when the cap seller woke up, he was shocked to see his basket empty. He searched for his caps everywhere. But, to his surprise, he saw the monkeys on the tree were wearing them.
The cap seller got very angry and sad. He had no idea how to get his caps back. When the cap seller made an angry face, to his surprise the monkeys also made the angry face. He laughed at them, the monkeys also laughed.
He realized that the monkey was imitating him. So, he thought an idea, the cap-seller took the cap and threw it on the ground.

The Ugly Duckling - Short Stories For Kids

The Ugly Duckling - Short Stories For Kids

It was a warm summer day. A mother duck had her nest hidden in the long grass, safe from weasels and the fox. She sat on her eggs, waiting for the eggs to hatch. Finally, the eggs hatched, with a pop and peep!peep! Bunch of golden ducklings appeared.
The mother duck was so happy to see her ducklings. But the largest egg in the nest was still there. The mother duck didn't remember laying such a huge egg. Suddenly the large egg cracked open, the baby bird was big, Grey and ugly. He had huge feet and a broad beak and didn't look like a duckling.

Other ducklings don't like him as he was ugly. A few days later the mother duck took her ducklings for a swim. The big Grey duckling also joined other ducklings.
After a great swim, the duck family waddled(walked with slow steps) on their into the yard. As the Grey duckling entered the yard, all the birds started talking about him.

Every day he was pecked and pushed by ducks and even by the chickens.
One day the poor ugly duckling couldn't take it anymore, so he ran far away from his home. At last, he ended up in a swamp where only wild ducks lived. The wild ducks told him "you're an ugly fellow, you cannot stay here, go away".

The duckling moved away from those ducks. The poor duckling felt very lonely. He didn't even move from that place. As it was winter, the water was so cold, and he got stuck in the swamp as it froze. In the morning a farmer who came that way rescued the duckling and took him to his house.
But the duckling was terrified, he fluttered into the milk vessel and splashed it all over the room.

The farmer's wife got furious and chased him out into cold. The duckling went back to the swamp, he spent a long and lonely winter, struggling to survive.
At last, the snow melted away. It was spring and the duckling was big and stronger than before. He flew high in the air, and he landed by a lovely lake surrounded by magnificent, white and graceful swans.
The ugly duckling thought that if the swans see him they will also make fun of his appearance. He was ashamed of himself and bowed his head low. When he bent his head, he saw his reflection in the water and was astonished.

His ugly feathers were now snowy white. His neck was curved and slender. He had grown into a swan. The other swans came towards him and stroked him with their beaks.
Nearby children shouted with joy at the sight of him and threw him some bread crumbs. He felt very happy to be with his friends.

The Miller, His Son, and Their Donkey - Short stories for Kids

A long time ago, an old Miller and his Son had an Ass who was quite old and could not work anymore. They decided to take the Ass to the village fair and sell him.
The next day, they took the Ass and started walking towards the fair. As they were walking someone from the village laughed loudly at them saying,"Look at them. They have an Ass and still, they are walking. What is the use of such an Ass?". On hearing this, the Miller asked his Son to sit on the Ass and started walking himself.
They had gone a little further along the road,  they heard three merchants whispering, "oh see! The Son is cruel. He is comfortably riding the Ass while his old father Walks this long distance. He should be ashamed of himself." The Son felt guilty. He got down from the Ass and asked his father to sit instead, just to please the merchants.
Further along the way, they met some women carrying market baskets. They asked the miller,"why are you riding the ass while your son walk? The ass looks strong enough. Why don't you both sit on the ass?". The miller took their suggestion and both the miller and the son started riding the ass.
Sometimes later, a group of people on the road remarked, "Look at the poor ass! So much burden on his shoulder". The miller and son felt sad for the ass. They tied the ass' s legs to a pole and carried him.
When they reached the market everyone in the village burst into laughter at this site. Even the ass was embarrassed.
He began to Kick, he tried to pull away to free himself from the rope.  Just as they were crossing a bridge, he moved side to side and accidentally fell into the river.
By trying to please everybody, he had pleased nobody and lost his ass forever.

The crow decided to fly in another direction.  As he flew a mile, He saw a pot lying on the ground.
The crow happily flew down to the pot and peaked in with great hope but the water was at the bottom of the pot. The thirty crow tried hard to put his beak inside the pot but could not reach the water.
The water in the pot was very low. He tried to move the pot but it was heavy. He could not even tilt the pot alone. The crow began thinking of ways to get water from the pot.
