The Old Woman and Her Two Servants Story
An old woman had the habit of waking up before sunrise. Early in the morning, when the rooster crowed, she would rise from the bed. The woman had two servants.
Both were lazy. They did not enjoy waking up early in the morning. But the lady was very strict. As soon as the rooster started crowing, she would wake them up. She hurried them to commence their work. The servants were frustrated with her persistent early morning calls.
One day, one of the servants said, “We must get rid of the rooster. If the rooster is not around to crow, she won’t wake up as early. We will have longer, undisturbed sleep”. The other servant also liked the idea.
The next morning, they carried out their plan, and the rooster died. Without the rooster’s crow to signal the break of dawn, the old woman was left in the dark about the appropriate time to rise. She found herself waking up earlier than ever before, and as soon as she was up, she would immediately call her servants to wake up.
The servant’s plan had backfired. Instead of a peaceful sleep, they found themselves in a more difficult situation. They were now up even earlier, and their mornings had more tasks than ever.
Moral Of The Story:
1. A wrong remedy is worse than the disease.
2. Wrong means can’t yield the right thing.
To do nothing is also a good remedy. – Hippocrates.
