Tenali Raman and The Jinx Story
Once, there was a man called Ramaya in the town of Vijayanagar. The people in the village believed that whoever saw the face of Ramaya first thing in the morning would not be able to eat anything throughout the day. So, all the people of Vijayanagar avoided Ramaya all the time. The news also reached the King’s ears. He wanted to find the truth and called for Ramaya at once.
He made Ramaya stay in a room next to his bed-chamber for one night. The next day, the King woke up and saw Ramaya’s face first thing in the morning.
Later, He went to have his lunch. The food was Freshly cooked and served. As he was about to take his first bite, he noticed a fly in his food. He threw the food and ordered fresh food. By the time the food arrived, he was not hungry.
Thus, the King realized that whatever the people said was true and that Ramaya was Jinxed. So, he ordered his soldiers to hang him immediately.
On the way to the gallows(the place where the criminals were hanged), they met Tenali Raman. Tenali Raman whispered something in Ramaya’s ear. The soldiers asked Ramaya his last wish. He said he wanted to send a message to the King and requested them not to hang him until he received a response from the King.
He said to the soldiers, “Go and tell the King that if it is true that anyone who sees my face in the morning loses their appetite for the day, then anyone who sees the King’s face in the morning is destined to lose his life that day. Tell him that if I am Jinxed, so is he and more than me.” The King was speechless when he heard Ramaya’s message. He ordered to stop the execution immediately. He was ashamed of his ignorance.
The King called Ramaya and offered him a lot of gifts. He also requested Ramaya not to disclose this incident to anyone in the town. After all, the people of Vijayanagar might not like to be ruled by the King, who is Jinxed.
Lesson We Learned:
Sometimes, people only understand the consequences of their actions when they experience them firsthand.
Just because something happens one after another doesn’t mean there is a relation between the two happenings.
